Introduction

As far as I understand, digital fabrication is using computer software to create something that is than translated into or onto a garment or ‘wearable outcome’. The aim of the course is to alter/modify existing garments, whilst considering sustainability issues, usage and saleability.

Why am I here (in this course) and what are my expectations?

To be honest, I didn’t really know what the course was all about, all I read was reengineering garments and using machines in the FabLab, which I wanted to do, but so far hadn’t. So I did’t really have any expectations. But, I also knew it involves using Illustrator, a program I have a love/hate relationship, with the hate part being the dominant one.

FabLab

Wendy Neale, the director of the Wellington FabLab, skipped in from Amsterdam, where she is currently participating in an intense textiles course. She shared some of her experiences there with us, and also explained the purpose/story behind Fablab and its resources.
